Amazing Spider-Man made up word movie review… Webpic
Ok, it deserves a little bit more than one word.  Marc Webb’s reboot of the franchise was not perfect by any means, but its a fresh take on our friendly neighborhood web crawler.
I Like:
- Andrew Garfield great choice for Peter Parker, nailed it.
- Snarky Spider-Man something that Rami/Tobey couldnt quite get.
- This is quite a departure from the comics, but I like all the shout outs to the fanboys, especially the classic webslinging poses, and who doesn’t love a Lizard in a labcoat (great band name BTW)
No Like:
- First the Avengers with no “Avengers Assemble”, now Spider-Man with no “Great power comes great responsibility”?
- Although well written, I think the dialogue was a little contrived making it hard for me to get caught up in the movie, and suspend my disbelief.
- I love Peter Parker, but Webb does him no favors in this movie.  He is brash, angsty, and kind of a punk, which I can see making him a hard hero to like for new comers to the franchise.
Have you seen the movie yet?  Let me know what you think in the comments (no spoilers please).

Io9 has a great rundown of  some of the first reviews of the rebooted Spiderman franchise, and it looks like most reviews are positive.   The below from SFX sticks out to me specifically

“Any worries that after the much-loved Sam Raimi Spider-Man films (well, the first two anyway…) Sony would reboot the franchise with a loud, vacuous, gimmicky, MTV-edited, soulless crowd-pleaser are dispelled immediately with a summer blockbuster that doesn’t have an action sequence for a good half hour. The most amazing thing about this Spider-Man is how much heart and genuinely warm storytelling it has…”

I feel like this movie has the distinct disadvantage to be the first superhero flick in the post The Avengers movie world.  Peter Parker is not Tony Stark, Spiderman is not Iron Man, less flashy, more introspective.  I am personally looking forward to the movie, like a palate cleanser after a spicy dish… right before the dark rich dessert that will the The Dark Knight Rises.  Get the full rundown at the link below, and let me know in the comments, are you guys excited about the new Spiderman?

Brand new show of Cobra Commander from the new GI Joe Retaliation movie.  My favorite thing about this?  Dude actually looks like Cobra Commander, not some sketchy burn victim with a clear plastic bucket on his head.  I have said it before and been mocked, but I will say it again, this will be the surprise movie of the summer.
As a side note, I knew that Joseph Gordon Levitt was not coming back for this movie, because you know, he is doing every other movie this summer.  What I did not know was that Cobra Commander was now being played by Faran Tahir.  I know the name doesnt sound familiar, but he was the captian of the USS Kelvin before being killed by Nero in Star Trek, he was also the first villain in Iron Man.

Ever see Han frozen and carbonite and exclaim “It should have been me!”?  Well, now it can be.  Apparently this year Disney World is doing something called “Star Wars Weekends”, you Disney experts may already be aware, and if so share what you know.  Anyway, during those weekends, you will have an opportunity to buy a carbonite figurine with your face instead of Han’s!  From Insidethemagic:

Guests at Star Wars Weekends this year will be given the opportunity to step into a “Carbon Freezing Chamber,” located near The American Idol Experience in the theme park, and have their faces 3-D scanned using multiple cameras to create a 8-inch figurine depicting themselves frozen in carbonite. It also comes with a light-up wristband.

I will cost your a cool hundo ($100) and it will take 4 weeks to arrive, here is hoping you dont have buyers remorse.
