Marvel at SXSW!
Awesome rundown of Marvel’s recent announcement’s by my buddy over at North State Nerd.  Check out his blog, if you arent already.

“Marvel Comics made some pretty big announcements at SXSW this week. 4 of them to be exact. All geared towards the next generation of comic book fans, and they are all huge steps toward bringing comic books into the modern era. It has seemed odd to me that while magazines and newspapers die out or switch to an online only edition, comic books companies are pressing on as always. Well that is about to change in a big way!Marvel’s first announcement has already come to fruition, and the servers crashed. It was announced that Marvel would make over 700 of their comics free for download on the Comixology app (a free app that lets you download comics from all publishers!). Well, they began posting them and the Comixology servers have not been working since. The company plans to fix the problem and get the books back up ASAP.Marvel also announced that they are launching an updated, Java-less, version of the Digital Comics Unlimited service, allowing ipad/pod/phone users to download tons of books to their devices. Digital Comics Unlimited is a subscription based service that allows reader to view over 13,000 (and growing) comics from the Marvel Universe. Readers can also download up to 6 books at a time to read while they are not connected to the internet. The final two announcements are the most exciting. Marvel is launching a mobile based series of exclusive Infinite Comics. These stories will be a completely unique experience, designed specifically for the mobile device reader. There will be 4 stories over a year, each broken into 13 weekly chapters. No word yet on a price point, but each chapter should be about the same as reading a 20 page comic. Marvel said that these stories will take place in the regular comic Marvel Universe, but they hope to capture the attention of the movie fans by capitalizing on current themes. for example, the first story will be called Wolverine: Japan’s Most Wanted, and will lead right up to the movies premiere in July. Finally, and most intriguingly, Marvel announced Project Gamma. Project Gamma is described as adaptive audio for comics. These books will feature music and sound FXs played while you read. but it is not simply an overlaid music track. the music is based on how you fast you read the book and the way you read so each reader will have a different experience.
I am very excited about all of Marvel’s new advancements and I expect that these ideas will help attract new readers who may have previously been just movie fans. These ideas will also attract new, younger readers who are already in love with the characters.
Good work again Marvel! EXCELSIOR!”

New Iron Man 3 Poster and Super Bowl TeaserNew poster from Iron Man 3, a movie about the fall of Tony Stark… shows Tony Stark falling. From everything I have read about this movie, it seems as if its Tony’s struggle with himself after the events of the Avengers, and the Mandarin taking advantage of that, proving that Tony is just a man. Marvel Studio’s president Kevin Fegi digs into this idea:

“So much of the journey of ‘Iron Man 3’ is informed by Tony’s experiences in ‘The Avengers. It’s almost like post-traumatic stress: he really has retreated after the events of ‘The Avengers’ into his workshop, where he’s building advanced versions of his suits. He has [designed] a version of the suit that can latch onto him in individual pieces … anytime, anywhere. As he starts to realize, it’s basically because he doesn’t want to be out of the suit: he’s seen a lot of things in ‘Avengers’ and has encountered a lot of powerful people, much more powerful than he is.”It brings us back to the Tony we met in the first part of ‘Iron Man’ where he’s removed from that convoy and brought to the cave with nothing but a box of scraps. It’s fun for all of us to watch Tony try to figure out how to get out of that scenario. Much of the movie is Tony in the middle of the country without his tools and a fairly broken suit to help him. But that’s his superpower: he wasn’t born on Asgard, he wasn’t hit by gamma rays, and he doesn’t have the super soldier serum. His power is his brain. It’s fun to put Tony Stark in a corner with nothing and see how he can get out of it.”

In addition to the new poster, a Super Bowl Teaser recently leaked.  Nothing super new here, nice shot of the new Mach VIII(?) armor with massive battle damage, but I think this is the first shot we have seen of Rhodey in the Iron Patriot armor.

Iron Man 3 is set for a May 3, 2013 release date.

The Iron Man 3 Rumor:  40 Iron Men?!?!?
Just be forewarned, we maybe walking into spoiler territory here.
The latest rumor out there regarding Tony’s new armor revealed at Comicon, is that its not the Mark VIII, but in fact the Mark XLVII (thats 47, for the roman numeral challenged).  Steel yourself for the following:

“The Extremis-enhanced bad guys under direction of Ben Kingsley’s Mandarin villain are going to be too much for Tony to handle on his own, so he thinks ahead, thinks big and has a plan. Tony’s about to go out and fight some bad guys when he mentions the Mark XLVII to Pepper Potts. Pepper asks what happened to the other forty and Tony just smiles.
From the cockpit of Mark XLVII Tony is able to control multiple armors in battle. We over here at LR have been vaguely aware of an action scene where Tony was going to control multiple Iron Man suits (presumably they look similar to distract his enemies as to the location of kill-able Iron Man Prime), but the number 40 seems…awesome. 40 Iron Men.”

Can you imagine, 40 Iron Men, flying around fighting a massive group of Mandarin backed baddies!  This could very well be the most epic superhero battle ever created in film!  If you arent already excited for the first, post Avengers movie, you should be now.  Iron Man 3 is set to hit theaters on May 3, 2013.

Avengers Heading Back to the Big Screens this Labor Day Weekend!
So the Avengers are heading back to theaters this labor day weekend to suck up more of your hard earned dough.  This could also be a pocket sand moment for Marvel and Disney, as they hope to distract us all from the delay of the crazy epic Marvel Cinematic Universe:Phase One collector Blu Ray set which includes all the Marvel flicks leading up to, and including The Avengers.
The delay, which I first heard from my pal Tim, is due to the company Rimowa suing Disney, due to the fact that the cool briefcase that the Blu Ray comes with (based on the SHIELD case from the movie) was created without authorization from the company.  The company has sense filed suit due to the poor quality of the “cheap knock off” case.  Amazon has already pulled the pre order from their website.
“Oh so you want that cool briefcase collector Blu Ray set huh?  Sure that wont… what…. really?!?!  Uhhh LOOK OUT, THANOS!”
So what say ye geeks, will you go see The Avengers again this labor day weekend?

Ninth Doctor to Play Malekith the Acursed in Thor 2!
In a brilliant bit of casting, Doctor Who alum Christopher Eccelston has been tapped to play the a villain in the upcoming Thor sequel, Thor:  The Dark World.  This also confirms the rumors that the Dark Elves as at least a co-villain in the next movie.  Ill be honest, I dont know much about Malekith, but per Wikipedia:

As a dark elf, Malekith also has the ability to manipulate the forces of magic for a variety of effects, including teleportation, energy projection, physical malleability, flight (by transforming into mist), illusion casting, and the ability to change the shape and appearance of other beings or objects

He also appears to have a history with Loki, so I think its safe to assume that the two get together and form some nefarious plot to take down Asgard, Midgard, Svartalfheim (home of the dark elves) or some combination of the three… or they could be out to steal the Infinity Gauntlet from Odin’s treasure room (See the first Thor movie).  Thanos has to get his hands on it some how right?
Thor:  The Dark World is set to be released on November 8th, 2013

New concept art for Iron Man 3 has surfaced over at Slash Film showing the new golden-ish armor that we saw previously at Comic-con.
I think the concept art looks better than what we saw, I dont really hate the armor, I just dont like the coloring.  If they went with true Iron Man gold and just swapped the red and gold, I think it would look great.  Its the beigey color that they went with… it just doesn’t jive with me.  As I told @Bedour316, I cant look at the new armor and not see this:
