Its here, new iPhone 5 and other Apple Goodies!
What you see above is the new iPhone 5, and new iPod nano!  See below for a quick list of all the announced stuff, as well as my quick reactions.
iPhone 5:  Here is the big boy, its slim, its biger, its… exactly like all the rumored images we have already seen.  New body type, new screen, new CPU, addition of LTE, better cameras (on paper), dreaded new dock connector, and same price $199 for the base model.  Honestly, Im not blown away, yes its bigger (so are all its competitors), yes its now 4G (so are all its competitors).  To me this feels like a very safe approach, they already had an amazing product, this is an attempt not to mess it up to much.
Verdict:  Unless you have to have all the newest apple tech (Im looking at you Justin Kelly) the 4S is now $99, and the 4 is free with contract.  I just dont see anything thats going to make me need to replace my 4S… that unibody design is pretty though.
iPod Nano:  It taller, its prettier, its mutli colored, and it has bluetooth!  The only downside?  Cant wear it as a watch
Verdict:  YOU CANT WEAR IT AS A WRIST WATCH, but if you arent going to do that, then this is once again, the best pure MP3 player on the market.
New iPod Touch:  Impossibly thin (6.1 MM!), multi colored, featuring the same gorgeous screen super fast A6 Chip as the new iPhone, its an amazing piece of tech.  Yet at $300 its more expensive than a contracted new iPhone.
Verdict:  You need this if you dont own a smart phone… otherwise just buy a smart phone.
“New” Shuffle:  Just new colors
Verdict:  Really?  Buy an old nano and WEAR IT LIKE A WRIST WATCH
New “Ear Pods”:  Apple finally got the memo and replaced their much maligned ear buds with the new pods.  They will supposedly sound and fit better than their predecessors.
Verdict:  They may not sound like crap… but they probably will.
IOS 6:  Of all the announcements, this is the one I was most excited about.  New Maps, new “Passbook”, Facetime over 3G (except AT&T), further Facebook integration (ugh), upgraded Siri and iMessage.  The only downside is the doing away with Youtube integration.  IOS 6 will be available on 9/17 for all iPhones back to the 3GS, iPod Touches, and the two most recent iPads.
Verdict:  All positives, you can now Facetime in the car!
-Whoa, that was a ton, let me know in the comments what you are/arent excited about and if I missed anything, or tweet me @misguidedgeek or @JoshArtrip.  Sorry for the slow week, we should be up and running again full time by Friday once I get back home, hopefully this makes up for the dearth in posting.  Thanks for sticking with me… I love you?

Misguided Geek Friday Tech Update
Quick rundown of the Tech news of the day:
Is this Amazon’s new Kindle Fire?  The Verge threw up this “leaked” image just yesterday, showing a 4:3-ish tablet with an oddly placed camera.  Pardon me while I yell “SHOPPED”!  Verge must know someone at Amazon, because they also leaked the new Kindle Touch, featuring a new E-Ink display called Paper White.
More leaked images of the iPhone 5 (now from France) show more of what we already know:  larger screen, center positions front facing camera, blah blah blah.  What is most intriguing is that funky square chip on the top right just beside the top speaker.  WTF is that for?
Apple beat Samsung in their long dawn out patent lawsuit, we already knew that.  But, that was only in the states, over in Japan the ruling was quite diffrent, as Samsung won against Apple.  Now Apple may owe Samsung money?
So tablets replaced ultrabooks right?  Could new hybrids (tablet/laptop crossovers) be the next big thing?  I mean the Microsoft Surface is in essence a hybrid right, now HP, Asus, Dell, and Lenovo are all coming out with hybrids of their own.  Not all the functions of a laptop, with none of the portability of a tablet… do not want.
That’s another week down, hope you guys enjoyed it, because I know I did.  Keep an eye on my Twitter feed for Doctor Who updates, as well as all kinds of personal information, and then check back Monday for a full recap.  Thanks for reading, and as always, stay geeky!

Misguided Geek Friday Tech Update
Quick rundown of the Tech news of the day:
Amazon has reportedly sent word out that it will be holding a press conference on September 6th.  This has to be their announcement of new Kindle and Kindle Fire(s) right…. right?
Microsoft revealed a new logo recently, the first major change in 25 years.  This new logo is much more modern the the old one… the text is grey!
Phone company Nokia used to make phones that couldnt be destoyed, since then the company has been on a downward slide.  They hope their partnership with Microsoft will change that, as they are set to produce two Windows 8 phones.
So maybe the iPad Mini wont be announced with the iPhone 5 in September.  The newest rumor is that the svelte new tablet will now be announced by Apple in October.
Another week in the books.  Ill be in Chicago this weekend for a wedding, so you may see a Instargram shot or two pop up here, so keep your eyes peeled.  As always, thanks for reading, have a great weekend, and stay geeky!

iPhone 4S Drops to Price to $150
To add my own fuel to the iPhone 5 fire, the iPhone 4S has dropped its price by 50 bones.  This was great for me, as I previously discussed my contact through Verizon has expired and I was debating my upgrade options, because I settled on the 4S.
As I have discussed at length, I dont like the move to the smaller conncector, yes I know the reasons, but it makes all the docks and stuff I have purchased garbage, I was not planning on waiting for the new iPhone anyway.  So, it was a nice surprise when checking out Saturday morning, to see a bill of a little over $160, vs the $200 + I was expecting.  It also made my decision between the iPhone and the Galaxy III much easier.
So, if it wasnt all but confirmed, the price drop of the 4S all but solidifies rumors that the release of a new iPhone is forth coming.

Misguided Geek Friday Tech Update
Quick rundown of the Tech news of the day:
 - A final version of Windows 8 (dont call it Metro) may have leaked early.  Reportedly an “N” version of the OS has appeared in the wild through a number of Torrent sites.  This comes just days after Microsoft confirmed they had completed the development of the new Windows.
 - Samsung has announced that they plan to unveil the new bigger Galaxy Note tablet on August 29th.  If reports are true, this would give them about a 2 week head start on Apple’s rumored announcement of the iPhone 5 and iPad Mini on September 12th.
 - Speaking of the iPhone 5, Techcrunch has a screen shot from a “reliable source” showing an iPhone 5,2 showing up in their sever logs.  Adding more fuel to the rampant wild fire that Apple is finalizing its new Phone for mass consumption.
 - The Nexus Q, Google’s streaming media sphere has been pulled from their Play store, early pre-orders have been canceled but offer a free “preview device”.  Google has not offer much as far as reasoning, only saying they “postpone(d) the consumer launch of Nexus Q while we work on making it even better,”
Thats all for this week, make sure to check back on Monday for another full week of geek fufillment.  Have a great weekend, and stay geeky!

Im way behind here, I know, but if you are the one person that hasnt heard a new iPhone and iPad Mini will be announced on September 12th, with the new phone to be released on September 21st…. supposedly.
Im kind of in a bind here folks.  My plan through Verizon is up on Friday, and I had planned to move to Sprint and join my wife’s plan (its a lot cheaper, and makes a ton of sense).  I have been debating upgrading from my Droid X to either the Galaxy or the iPhone 4S… but with this news I know that I will kick myself for not waiting.  So what do you guys think?  Get the Galaxy, 4S, or wait for the iPhone 5?

Let the smoke continue to billow.  Apple Pro recently discovered the above photo as a Photo Bucket leak.  It supposedly shows the frame of the new iPhone 5, featuring a taller profile and a center positioned front facing camera.  According to Cnet this would bump its screen size to a solid 4 inches from the current 3.5, this comined with the width staying the same would allow for a 16:9 aspect ratio.

Possible good news regarding the new smaller connector on the iPhone 5.  The newest rumor out is that the new smaller connector could actually be a 19 pin connector (rather than an 11 pin connector) and that it would be mechanically and electrically compatible with the fairly standard micro-USB connectors.  According to Gizmodo:

The theory is that Apple would have engineered this new dock connector in order to comply with the European Union directive to standardize chargers around micro-USB.

This is great news for a number of reasons.  If Apple moves this direction, it automatically makes the micro-USB connector even more of an industry standard than it already is, which means that you dont just have to throw out all those old chords.  This also means that vast market of third party iPhone peripheral manufactures who make docks and the likes for the iPhone, could be compatible for a wide range of other phones.  Also, because of the micro-USB standard, it would ease the manufacture of adapters like the one above, so that one could still use all the old third party products they already own.  CONSUMER WIN!

The dreaded rumored new smaller connector on the iPhone is no longer a rumor.  A Techcrunch has recently verified that the new phone will be moving away from its standard 30 pin connector to a new 11 pin, form factor reducing set up.  If you listen closely you can hear the cheers from accessory producers who realize you are going to have to shell out more money to re-buy many of the same docks and connectors that you may already own.  I feel bad for the dude who just shelled out $30,000 for the 700lb Behringer “fridge” dock… maybe they will let you trade in for the upgraded model for a discount?
