Things I do not need/I love you Etsy…. Ghostbusters Proton Backpack Movie Prop Replica.
Im not into cosplay, but one of these days, I would love to put together a really intricate Ghostbusters rig.  Since meeting the folks of NC Ghostbusters at HeroesCon 2012, and seeing their setup though, I realize what a big deal it is, so I kind of put it out of my head.  Then, I stumble upon this amazing proton pack on Etsy, so Im like “yeah alright”… then I see that its $850 bucks… you know maybe I dont need to dress up to have a good time.

Ever wonder why Square has not yet remade one of the most iconic games of all time Final Fantasy VII?  Well, according to a report from the recent share holder’s meeting,  its because, well, nothing they have made since FFVII has been that good.  Apparently, they fear that if they make a really good FFVII remake that it will be the final Final Fantasy.
So, I guess, they are going to keep making crappy FF games using the bait of a FFVII remake to keep us buying?  Either that, or maybe put some time and effort into the game and make a game so amazing that we forget about a new FFVII, and then treat us for being so loyal and putting up with VIII, IX, X, XI (… is there a 12 and 13) by rewarding us with a mind blowing return to Cloud and his band of unlikely heros.  In the mean time, pick up a buster sword (like the one above I saw at Heroe’sCon) and make your own Final Fantasy.

HeroesCon 2012 COSPLAY SPECTACULAR!  I was only able to catch a fraction of all the great cosplay from HeroesCon, but below is a gallery of 34 of the best cosplay I was able to get good pictures before.  My favorite is the above Monarch Henchman, which Im assuming is #24.  This guy due to the perfect costume and the spot on pose.  Enjoy:

That is a wrap on HeroesCon 2012. Tomorrow I am back with the regular posting schedule.

HeroesCon 2012, Stan Lee Panel.  This was a dream come true for me.  I never thought that I would have the opportunity to be in the same room with the legend who has had the single greatest impact the modern comic book, let alone have the distinct pleasure of hearing him talk about the industry and his thoughts, while fielding questions from the audience.  It was a surreal experience.
It was immediately apparent why Stan Lee is still so popular today.  The man is immensely entertaining, constantly zinging the audience’s questions, and picking with the the panel coordinator.  Even while being overtly boisterousness, claiming that the only reason he is still working today is “greeeeeed”, its easy to see a man beneath that genuinely loves what he is doing, and truly appreciates the lucky turn of events that put him where he is today.  HeroesCon was great, but Stan the man was the highlight.
Below is a video shot by a young lady sitting a few seats over from me, its long, and quality is not great, but its worth watching.  I have timed it up to just his closing remarks and his trademark line “EXCELSIOR!”  I was a little excited, so if you listen closely you can hear me at the end screaming “STAN LEE!!!!”

Now what I did buy/free swag.

I set a budget of $40, which I stuck to, and was pretty strict with.  The bulk of my budget went to one of my favorite writers Nathan Edmondson, picking up the new Activity trade and issue #6 of the series, which Nathan, Artists Mitch Gerads and Mark Laming, and Major Rusty Bradley of the US Special Forces, who co-wrote issue #6, all signed.
One piece that I didnt expect much from at first was the $1 sketch from artist Madeline Rupert of the pug sheriff.  I had some time to check out her web comic Sakana, and its good stuff.  Check out the comic at Sakana.smackjeeves.com, and check out some of her stuff which she obviously put much more effort into than just my pug over at her DeviantArt page.  She has the official recommendation of the Misguidedgeek.

HeroesCon 2012 Swag.  First what I didnt buy….

Comic book conventions are great fun, but you can EASILY break they bank if you are not careful.  They are a regular orgy of nerdy desires, there are few things that your geeky mind desires that you cant buy here in one way shape or form.  I try to go into each con with a strict budget in mind, above are just a small sampling if items that I didn’t buy… although I really really really wanted to.

Lets start off the HeroesCon 2012 recap by featuring a very talented artist, Robert Ullman.  Robert, apparently does everything, he is a freelance illustrator, comic book writer and artist, specializes in awesome pin up pieces, is very interested in uniform aesthetics, and above all else, is an all around great guy.  I have had the distinct opportunity, if not to directly interact with Robert, at least run in the same circle as him, though a great community of people whose interest in the very geeky subculture of sports revolving around team and individual uniforms.  Specifically Paul Lukas and his great website Uni-Watch.com.  Robert’s work is phenomenal, and I highly recommend checking out Atom Bomb Bikini at his site http://rkullman.blogspot.com/.
Thanks for being such a good sport Robert, and I will see you around the Uni-verse!

Just had an amazing day in Charlotte at HeroesCon 2012!  I got to spend the day with so many talented people, some I have met before, some new, saw some great cosplay, bought some great swag, and got to sit in on the STAN LEE PANEL!  Rather than try and do everything tonight, I plan on a special series of Sunday post dedicated just to just HeroesCon 2012.
Tomorrow is the last day, so if you live within two hours of Charlotte, I highly recommend checking in.
