MisguidedGeek turns 2!
Two years ago I made a decision to return to my nerdy roots. I wanted to rediscover a part of myself that I had long since forgotten, and re-integrate myself into a community that I had lost. Two years ago, I started Misguidedgeek. Then it was just a place where I could throw up a Robocop gif, or share funny pictures or videos that I found surfing the interwebs. It has taken me roughly a thousand post to find my voice again. Since then I have tried very much to only post original content, or at the very least, weigh in on important matters and debates in the geek realm, and although I always see my page views spike when I post something popular (hulk smashing Loki for example), I get so much more satisfaction doing my reading list, or "One Geeks Opinion", "This day in History 702" or speculating on the next Doctor.
I must also mention, through the blog and my activities because of the blog, that I have had the distinct pleasure of meeting and interacting with a TON of great people, like Caitlin from Contagious Costuming, or ComradeCourt who I met at HeroesCon, or my long time reader Bedour316, my D&D group, and the great guys and gals over at the Wicked Radio Network. Through my blog I have also had a better opportunity to really get to know my own friends better. Along with being a fan already of Blake’s work, I got a better opportunity to hang out with him working a little on his new documentary "Shoot Again", and my long time friend Tim from North State Nerd, this blog has given us new topics to discuss and debate.
Without a doubt, it has been a tough two years for me personally. I do not talk about my personal life here much, but during this time I have lost both my parents as well as my grandpa, this has really put me into a big funk, and more often than not, this blog has been my outlet. I don’t want to make this into a sad story, because its not, I have a great life, a beautiful and amazing wife, and tons of old and new friends. The most exciting endeavor is the one coming up, as I will be a Geek Dad, to two new geeklets no less, which excites me and terrifies me extremely. I thank you all for hanging with me over this time, and I look forward to many more years and many thousand more post.
-Josh Artrip, the forever MisguidedGeek.
