Misguided geek
I realized today that I am not cool enough to be a “geek.” I know, this seems to be a misnomer, but it is true. Thinking back to my youth, I was always an outcast, different from those around me, or as my dad would say, I was “just a little bit… off.” Growing up in a small town I was unable to find a community to call my own, so I patrolled the fringe attempting to find myself in an increasingly confusing and hostile environment. College was a very similar, yet very different experience, as I remade myself into a caricature of who I thought I wanted to be. I was drawn away from my earlier self, supplanting Sci-Fi for beer pong. It is in these years after undergrad that I came full circle, rekindling all those suppressed embers, but now I have to play catch up. I have been away from my old stomping grounds too long, and I must now begin a new journey of self actualization, to re-discover and re-define my own geek-hood.
My aim in creating this blog is to flesh out some semblance of my inner geek. I hope to provide content of interest for the n00b and pro alike, posting reviews, bad jokes, musings, and current events in the geek sphere, among other topics. If you are someone who is new to this community, or, like me, hoping to rediscover themselves, hopefully you will find inspiration in my own journey. If you are a real OG (original geek) I charge to aid your fledgling geeks, inspire us to achieve self discoveries and journey to new plains of geek-realization To quote the nerdtastic Coolio I hope you decide to “come along and ride on a fantastic voyage”…
